Hometown Shopping is the result of a class project where we were tasked with thinking of a problem and designing an app to solve that issue. The initial goal of Hometown Shopping was to help users find local small businesses near them.
After a competitor review and conducting informal interviews the app blossomed into a hub and spoke design with a dashboard that featured business search, customer reviews, advertising, and a community event calendar. The initial pencil drawings evolved into medium fidelity wireframes using Figma. A clickable Figma prototype was created to demonstrate the app workflows.
This project made me appreciate all that goes behind the scenes of a cell phone app that incorporates search, navigation, calling, and web browsing. This was my first time using Figma, and required many tutorials on YouTube and other sites to even scratch the surface of this powerful software.
