This is a hypothetical redesign of the information architecture and navigation system for the website of the Joplin, MO public library. The global navigation system was confusing, and the key functions were difficult to find. The goal of this project was to discover the key features of a library website and to simplify access to those elements and make the navigation more intuitive overall.
Research was conducted and personas were developed to represent the two most common site users and their respective priorities. An improved site map was developed and the redesigned global navigation system was tested using Treejack software. Revisions to the global navigation were included in wireframe drawings of the improved homepage that was then tested using Chalkmark first click testing.
This project deepened my enjoyment and appreciation for information architecture, and let the organizational nerd in me come out to play. I developed a better appreciation for the mysterious dark arts of category labelling and menu creation. As a result of this project, I have a desire to learn more about development of faceted search results.
